What are Intentions and When to Set Them
If you are ready to begin setting intentions, you are probably very familiar with what intentions are. If not be sure to go back in this series and read the previous posts.
Knowing what intentions are and how to use them both for the big things in life and for the smaller everyday things is a powerful way to master the law of attraction and become the co-creator you are meant to be.
Intentions are the best way to begin the process of manifestation. They are a declaration of your desire and commitment to create it. Intentions transform a simple want or wish or idea into a powerful and purposeful message. A message that is carried into the universe and begins the process of manifestation.
How to Create Intentions
Setting an intention is not asking for what you want. True intentions are not a simple request. Your intention is a powerful declaration – a commandment – of your intent to create and participate in the unfolding of your life.
In order to set successful intentions, you first must create them. Powerful intentions tap into the subconscious and are one with every cell in your being. They create an energy within you that is in alignment with what you want, and they attract that desire to you.
In the previous post, we went over the five steps to creating powerful intentions. They were:
- Step One: Dream It
- Step Two: Experience It
- Step Three: Believe It
- Step Four: Let Go
- Step Five: Give it Details
How to Set Successful Intentions
Once you have gone through the five steps to creating powerful intentions you are ready for the next five steps. The following techniques for setting successful intentions will create more power and purpose for your intentions. They will help you align mentally, physically, spiritually, and energetically with your intention.
Stick with the process and take each step throughout the creation and setting of your intentions seriously and the universe will have no choice but to manifest what you are putting out there.
Step Six: State it
Once you have created your intention and are certain it is exactly what you want to manifest, the next step is to state it.
This step is important because it not only gives your intention power and clarification it creates an emotional and physical response within you. It exhibits your conviction to make it happen.
Just the simple act of having a thought is enough to manifest that thought into reality. But the whole idea behind setting intentions is to create clarity and determination and ensure you manifest this desire specifically.
Say It Out Loud:
The act of stating your intention will increase its power manifold. Both within your own mind and as far as what message you are sending out to the universe. This is not something you want to keep to yourself. You want your intention to be heard. You want your conscious, your subconscious and all the forces in the universe to know, this is what I want, and I am expecting it.
So say your intention out loud. Say it with conviction. Say it with emotion. And say it with the knowledge that you can and will manifest this intention. I intend it and so it is.
Be sure to state your intention clearly, precisely, and specifically. State your desires as exactly what you want.
Avoid using vague terms that are left to interpretation, such as, someday, soon, more and so on.
For example: “I will make a million dollars someday.”; “I will have enough money to pay all my bills soon.”; or “I need more money.” Are all vague and unspecific. Intentions like these are ineffective because they lack direction and clarity – who knows what they really mean.
If your intentions contain vague ideas of amounts, times, or other details of what you want, go back to step five of creating your intentions and give it more detail. Ask yourself specific questions such as: When is someday? Does soon mean tomorrow or a year from now? What do you mean by more money, $1.00, $100.00, $100,000.00? If you don’t know what you are asking for you will either not be able to manifest it, or you may manifest something other than what you really want.
Keep in mind, the more specifics and details your intention has, the faster you will begin to manifest experiences in alignment with that intention.
Step Seven: Feel it
The best and most successful intentions are set with feeling. As you state your intention, really focus on how it will make you feel.
Remember in the previous post we talked about how your statement of intention is more than just the words you speak or write on a piece of paper. The words we use when setting intentions are simply a tool that helps reinforce the desire, create purpose, and provide focus. It is for our own benefit.
Whereas the universe is not concerned with words, rather it picks up on your true heart’s desire, beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. So the process of setting your intention needs to be more than just a simple wish or desire. It needs to be fueled by your drive, determination, desire, motivation, belief in yourself and the universe, and your willingness to make it happen.
You began this process when you created your intentions within your subconscious. You want to continue the process when setting your intentions by making sure you feel the emotions you want to feel. Let yourself become consumed with the passion and excitement of having your desire.
Create the Feeling You Want to Have
When setting your intention aim to feel the same way you will feel when your intention manifests. There is no difference between now and then. Like attracts like, so if you want to manifest your desire, you need to start by having the same feelings now that are consistent with what you want to feel.
It is like you are reaching out into the future and bringing a piece of it into your present. Like picking an apple from the tree of your desire and holding it in the present moment. Eating it and enjoying it now.
Your enjoyment and appreciation of that apple is already attracting more apples just like it or even better. So there is no reason to save it for later, go ahead and enjoy it right now!
Remember the feeling you had in step one and two from the last post? When you visualized and dreamed up your intention in the first place? How did you feel as you walked through your visualization? That is the feeling you want to aim at having. Visualize it as often as you need to. As you do, reach out and grab that apple to bring into the present moment to savor and enjoy.
Step Eight: Infuse it
Stating your intention with feeling is all you need to set successful intentions. Doing so is extremely powerful and if you keep it up you are certain to manifest your intentions. But there are a few ways you can give your intention even more power and manifest it even faster.
Infuse your statement of intention by changing the way you phrase it. By using these techniques your statement of intention will cross the barrier of your conscious mind and embed it in your subconscious. They will raise the vibrations of your intention and send it soaring into the universe. And your angels and spirit guides will hear you clearly. Phrasing your intention in the following ways is like giving your intentions vitamins and supplements.
Use the techniques that work best for you and watch as your intentions begin to unfold before your very eyes.
It Already Happened
First, state your intention as though it has already happened. Make your statement present tense. Like an affirmation. This will help you be more in touch with the feeling you want to have. The subconscious mind doesn’t really understand terms such as “will have,” “am going to,” or other such qualifiers. So stating your intention in the present tense will more easily reach the subconscious.
Here are some examples:
I have more than enough money.
I have love and companionship.
I experience success.
I am so proud of what I have accomplished.
Say It with Gratitude
Give your intention a maximum power boost by not only saying it out loud and as if you already have it. Say it with gratitude. The easiest way to do this is to add “I am grateful”, or “I am thankful” to your statement of intention.
I am so grateful I have more than enough money.
I am thankful for all the love and companionship I have.
I am grateful for all the success I am experiencing.
I am so thankful to be doing what makes me feel proud of my accomplishments.
Use Your Name
Intensify your already extremely powerful statement of intention by using your name. The words “I am” are very powerful words. By adding your name, you are giving your statement even more command and conviction.
It is like saying, “Hey Universe! You know me! I’m Sarahdawn! I am so grateful and thankful, and I have everything I desire!”
Say that right now, repeat that phrase with your own name and notice how empowering it makes you feel. An instant vibrational boost.
Here are examples of intentions using all the above techniques:
I, (your name), am so grateful I have more than enough money.
I, (your name), am thankful for all the love and companionship I have.
I, (your name), am grateful for all the success I am experiencing.
I, (your name), am so thankful to be accomplishing so much to be proud of.
Step Nine: Release it
You have created some powerful intentions and now you have set them with emotion and compelling statements. The next step is personally my favorite. It is time to release it.
Releasing your intention is letting it go into the universe. It is realizing that you have done your part in creating and declaring what you want. Now you are sending it out to the universe with faith and love. You are letting the universe and the spiritual realm do their part in the manifestation process.
Once you release your intention all you need to do is wait with expectancy, knowing your desire is in the process of becoming a material, physical, and tangible reality. It is on its way. Just like that package you ordered from Amazon. Once it goes through the packing and shipping process it will appear in your mailbox or even on your doorstep.
Write it down
Write your intention on a piece of paper. Or get a special notebook/journal for writing down your intentions. Once you are done simply file the paper or notebook away for later.
Personally, I like to keep a special journal of intentions and look at it every day to remind me of what I am working toward. It is also effective to be able to go back and read your intention or even edit and adjust it as needed.
Add a drop of orange essential oil to the page you wrote your intention to add a positive, cheerful, optimistic energy to it and to help carry it into the universe.
Light a Candle
Light a candle in honor of your intention and your connection to the universe and source energy. Light a separate candle for each intention or for each aspect of your intention. As the wax melts, know the candle is releasing your intention into the ethers.
If you want, you can use candles infused with energy and essential oils that are in alignment with your desire.
Light a stick of incense and watch as the smoke rises and carries your intentions away. The smoke will make its way up into the universe and to source energy where it will begin the process of manifestation.
Once again you can choose an incense that is pleasant to you or choose one that carries an energy in alignment with what you are manifesting.
Use the process of visualization to release your intention. You can imagine your intention as a certain shape and color. Hold it in your hands and watch it float away like a bubble up into the universe.
Hand it Off
This is another method of using visualization to release your intention. Once again give your intention a shape and color that you can hold in your mind’s eye. See yourself handing it to an angel so they can take it up to the heavens.
You can visualize giving it to any angel you want, including your own guardian angel or an archangel.
Each of the archangels has a specialty. The Archangel Sandalphon is known to be so tall he can simply take your prayer or intention and reach it straight up into heaven. Or you can ask a specific archangel to help manifest your intention and carry it to the heavens.
Here is (a very small and incomplete) list of archangels for some common areas of intention to get you started:
- Archangel Raphael for issues related to health
- Archangel Ariel for money, prosperity, education, or animals
- Archangel Chamuel for romance and love
- Archangel Uriel for self-employment
- Archangel Gabriel for writing or other creative/artistic aspirations.
- Archangel Michael for protection, dealing with depression or overcoming a loss
No matter what angel you ask for assistance, be sure to thank them.
It may sound ironic, but however you decide to release your intentions, do so with intention. Remember from the previous post, When to Set Intentions, that you can set quick, in the moment, intentions for the smaller, everyday aspects of life.
All you need to do is make up your mind to release your intention. Use that desire and determination to send it into the universe so it can manifest into reality.
Step Ten: Repeat
Lather, rinse, repeat. Yes, when we truly are committed to something and have the purpose, drive, and desire to make sure it is done well – we go back and make sure the job is done right.
Set your intentions more than once until you feel it deep within you. Make it part of you.
And make sure you don’t forget it. Revisit your intentions, recreate and reset them about once a week until they have manifested. More often if you feel like you need to or something changes.
When it comes to intentions you will hear the “set it and forget it” method of attracting. And there is truth to that, but it’s not that simple. You want to end your session of setting an intention with expectancy and releasing it. However, you do not want to forget it.
Revisit your intentions often and reset them. Keep them close to your heart, mind, and soul.
