How to Use the Law of Attraction with Depression by sarahdawntunis.com

The Law of Attraction is a powerful force in our universe that allows us to co-create our lives and mold the very reality we exist in. Yet, the key to using the law of attraction is to raise your vibes, focus on gratitude, and keep all your thoughts and feelings positive, which can feel impossible to those of us stuck in the negative pits of depression.

If you have depression, you may be wondering if it is even possible for you to use the law of attraction at all. And if that is you, I am so happy you are here! Because not only can you use the law of attraction just like everyone else, but you can use it to change the very reality of your depression.

What is the Law of Attraction?

Check out my Getting Started with the Law of Attraction Video

The law of attraction is a universal law that states like attracts like. It is kind of like gravity, another universal law, that pulls us toward the center of the earth. But the law of attraction pulls into our lives what we are focused on and, more importantly, what we expect.

If you are focused on lack, doubt, pain, or any kind of negativity, the universe will put things in your life that are consistent with all of that. Negative attracts negative. Which just so happens to be a big problem for those of us stuck in the negativity of depression.

If you are constantly thinking about all the things wrong with you or wrong in your life, you are attracting more of those same things to you. Do you tend to ruminate on your past and everything that has gone wrong? Then use those thoughts to justify your beliefs that you are useless or no good. If so, the universe is providing more situations that help you justify the negative thoughts about yourself even more. If you expect the worst to happen, the universe will provide just that for you.

Whereas that person, we all know at least one of them, who is always happy, and everything always seems to go their way, is probably doing the opposite. They expect good things to happen. They expect life to work out and make them happy. They think about the positivity in life and believe they can make good things happen.

Both the depressed person and the happy person are using the law of attraction. You see, the law of attraction is non-discriminatory. It does not have feelings, and it is not a conscious thinking being. It is simply a universal law. What you ask for, the law of attraction will provide. And the way you ask for something is by thinking, expecting, and feeling.

But don’t let that stop you; it is possible to use the law of attraction with depression.

The law of attraction is a universal law that states like attracts like.

You Have the Power

As you can easily see, the law of attraction when stuck in the vortex of depression is troubling. How on earth can you get out of this trap when you feel consumed by negativity and feeling bad no matter what you do? How are you supposed to use the law of attraction with depression as part of your life?

First of all, you use the law of attraction to beat your depression. And you do that by knowing the law of attraction exists in the first place. Done! You can check that one off your list. See, you’re making progress already!

Secondly, you learn and embrace the fact that you are a powerful being. You have the power to influence your own thoughts and feelings, and that means you have the power to influence the law of attraction.

You are a co-creator. You not only exist in this reality, but you are also helping to create it. Your thoughts are not just a tool for figuring things out (or to torture you, as the case may be); your thoughts are a powerful manifestation tool.

You’re not special. You have not been given superpowers to influence reality. No, no, no. Everybody who thinks is just as powerful as you are. But what you need to understand and accept is that you are just as powerful as everyone else.

And that is the first mistake most of us with depression make. We believe we are not much of anything. We often feel worthless and no good. But the fact is – whether you believe it or not – you are a very powerful and important being on this planet.

Learn How to Think

blank

Now that you know the law of attraction exists and you’re beginning to grasp the fact that you are a powerful co-creator – it is time to learn how to think.

The number one lesson for learning how to think is: just because you have a thought does not make it true. What does that mean? It means that every little thought that pops into your head is not a fact. Just because you think it does not in any way, shape, or form make that thought truth.

I can go to bed at night and have the thought that the sun won’t come up tomorrow. What a horrifying thought! Yet when I wake up in the morning, sure enough, the sun is shining. Just because I had the thought does not make it true, and that goes for every thought you have. If you think that you are a loser and you will never amount to anything, it does not mean it is true. All it means is you had a rather nasty thought.

However, as we are talking about the law of attraction, it is important to know that those thoughts do have power. They have the power to influence you, your future thoughts, your feelings, and your expectations. And that means it very much can affect what you are putting out into the universe. So it is best to recognize those negative thoughts and tell yourself they are not necessarily true. Then let them go before they worm their way into the rest of your being.

But here’s a little secret. If you think of something positive that you want and create a corresponding positive feeling (as if it has already happened), you will put stronger energy into the universe than that negative thought ever had.

What I mean is, think of something you want and imagine what you would feel like if it came true. The combination of that thought (even though it hasn’t happened) and the corresponding positive feeling is more powerful for attracting than any negative thought is.

Positive thoughts are more powerful than negative thoughts.

You don’t even have to believe the thought; you just need to think it, and it is already more powerful than the negative one. Back it up with feeling the positivity that comes from that thought, and you have a power-packed magnet for attracting something good to you.

So when those negative thoughts come up, imagine hitting the backspace button and deleting it. “Delete, delete, delete!” Then replace it with something positive that you do want in your life. You don’t have to believe it just yet. You’re on the right path by simply thinking about it and letting yourself feel – even for just a moment – what it would feel like to have it.

Use Intention

One of our most powerful yet underused tools for manifestation is intention. Intention is the practice of intentionally stating what you want. You can make this statement out loud, write it down, or say it to yourself. It doesn’t matter. All an intention is – is putting what you desire into words.

Once you begin learning how to control your thoughts, the next step is to declare to the universe what it is you want. Or, in other words, set some intentions.

Relax your mind, take a few deep breaths, and think about what you want in your life. Then put those desires into words. I suggest writing them down. That way, you can refer to them or change them later if you want. All that matters is you put your desires into words.

A few things to keep in mind when it comes to setting your intentions.

  • Keep them positive. Always state what you desire in the positive. So don’t say things like “I don’t want…”
  • Say your intentions like you mean business, and it is happening or about to happen now. “I am ready for that car now!”
  • Feel what it will feel like to have your desires already manifested. Take time to visualize them. Use all your senses to imagine what it will feel like. What will you see, taste, hear, smell, and touch? Before you set your intentions, feel how good it will feel to have your desire manifested already.
  • Make sure you know what it is you really want. Give your intentions and the way you phrase your intentions, time, and thought. You don’t want to manifest something you will regret – so make sure you’ve thought it through.

Once you’ve got a list of intentions, just tell the universe. You can say them to yourself, but it is much more powerful to state them out loud. Something like, “Hey, Universe! It’s me, (your name), I (state your desires) now!”

My example: “Hey, Universe! It’s me, Sarahdawn! I am ready to release my depression and be happy now!” or “I’m going to write that book now!”

I use exclamation points in my example because I am yelling my intention to the universe. I am not yelling at the universe. But I am saying that I know what I want with conviction, and I have no hesitancy putting it out there. I am using my passion and desire to get my intention into the universe.

The more passion you put behind your intention, the more powerful it becomes.

Expect It

blank

Now that you’re learning how to control your thoughts and you’ve set some intentions, it is time to expect them. You already put your order into the universe. So now it is time to go about your daily business, knowing your intention is on its way.

It is very important that you don’t continuously think about your intention. It is best to kind of forget about it and just let the universe do the rest of the work.

However, you do want to act like your desire is already here. And if you have any thoughts or sparks of motivation to do something related to your intention – act on it. Acting in accordance with what you want and how you want to feel is the best way to supercharge your intentions. Feeling inspired to make it happen, well, obviously, that’s a good thing.

Let’s continue with my previous example, where I told the universe I was ready to release my depression and be happy. I have told the universe what my intention is. Now I am going to expect it to happen and “forget” it. But I am going to act as if it has already happened. I hope that is not too confusing.

So, I set my intention, and of course, I still feel a bit depressed, right? But I am not going to think about how I still feel depressed or how I am not happy yet. I already put my order in, and now I am just waiting for it to arrive. Like I do a package I ordered from Amazon. However, I am going to do things and act like happiness is coming. Prepare for it, so to speak. Since I know it is coming, I am going to make room for it in my life.

If I ordered a new end table from Amazon and I must wait for it to come. I don’t stand at the front door watching for the Amazon truck to arrive for the next week or so, right? That would be crazy. Instead, I make room next to the couch for my new table. I clean up that area and plan for what I will put on that table when it comes. Why? Because I know it’s coming, and I want to be ready for it.

So with my intention to be happy, I am going to maybe clean my house, eat well, go out with friends, and in general, act like I would if my happiness was already here. I said I was ready for it, I meant it, and now I’m acting like it.

Be Careful, Though.

Do not force yourself to do something that makes you uncomfortable. Stepping out of your comfort zone is good, but not at the expense of making you suffer. Suffering and feeling uncomfortable is NOT what you are trying to attract.

So say, from my example, I do not feel like going out with friends yet, and the thought of it makes me feel anxious, then I am not going to do that yet. Instead, I need to find a different activity that I would do when I’m happy but feel comfortable doing now. Maybe instead, I’ll do a puzzle or take a bubble bath.

Does it sound too easy for finally putting an end to that overwhelming depression you know so well? Well, it is. It is so easy that it is incredibly challenging for most of us—especially those of us with depression. But remember, these are just individual steps to changing your reality. And it is the first steps that matter most, no matter how easy or small they may seem.

And that is all you’re doing: taking the first steps to make your life better. So, if it feels too simple, just let it be simple. To doubt what you’re doing is to block the universe from providing. Just keep reminding yourself that you deserve this. Because you do.

If it feels too simple, let it be simple.

Use Intentions for Everything

Now that you know what intentions are, start using them for everything. If you want the day to go well, intend it to go well when you wake up in the morning. If you have a meeting, intend for it to go smoothly and for you to say all the right things. You get it, right? Use your intention to make things happen the way you want them to.

Your intention is a powerful force. However, you might want to start setting intentions for little things until you get the hang of it. Once you experience it working for small things, your confidence will rise, and your ability to manifest with the law of attraction will increase.

If your depression is intense right now, you might start with something like, “For the next 5 minutes, I will think only positive thoughts.” Keep it small and simple, and then move on to bigger things when you are ready. Such as, before you make a meal, intend for everything to go perfectly. Or intend to only have good dreams before going to bed. Once you get the hang of it, you can set the intention to go an entire day without feeling consumed by depression.

Give it Time

blank

The law of attraction and our ability to manifest works in a sort of vacuum. This means if you have been experiencing negativity and feeling depressed for a while, it will take time for what you are trying to manifest to catch up.

Right now, you are manifesting what you were thinking about before. The more negative your expectations have been, and the longer you have had them, the longer it will take to begin seeing your positive intentions manifest.

So do not give up on yourself. Give this process time. If bad things continue to happen, it is from what you were thinking before – it does not mean your intentions are not working. And it most definitely does not mean there is anything wrong with you or your ability to use the law of attraction.

It is very much possible to use the law of attraction with depression. So keep trying. If you find it difficult or start to think about giving up, leave a comment, and let’s talk about it.

What’s important here is that you are learning to care about yourself and your desires. You are realizing that you deserve more than living with the negativity depression has given you. You are taking steps to fight against the negativity, and with enough time, you will succeed.

Believe you can and you’re halfway there.

These are just a few techniques to begin using the law of attraction to not only manifest your desires but to help you overcome the negativity of depression. Once you get the hang of using these techniques and start seeing them work, you will experience your vibrations rising. And nothing beats high vibrations for both feeling good and manifesting. And that is how you use the law of attraction with depression.
